We are looking to expand our team and are hiring:

Data Platform Engineer (m/f/d) for the European AI Factory HammerHAI

Your Role and Responsibilities:

  • Developing and maintaining software and data environments in the context of AI, HPC and data analytics use cases for modern AI and high-performance computing hardware (e.g. GPUs, CPUs, AI accelerators)
  • Contributing to the initial (and evolving) software stack and the supported service portfolio of the AI Factory within an engaging and open work environment in a highly motivated, international team with opportunities to contribute with your own ideas
  • Supporting development of the platform that enables customers of HammerHAI to access and provide their own AI data sets and models
  • Fostering contact with collaboration partners as well as stakeholders from the European AI ecosystem, relying on your friendly personality and communication skills
  • Opportunities to work with national and European partners on novel AI R&D projects from the private and academic sectors.
  • Maintaining relationships with technology providers and system developers (software/hardware).

Basic Qualifications:

Required/Minimum Qualifications

 

  • PhD or Master’s degree in computer or data science, or other areas of scientific computing, or Bachelor’s degree with multiple years (>2) of applied software development / platform engineering / deployment experience and/or working with AI data management workflows ideally as senior engineer in research or enterprise environments

 

Other Requirements

  • Proficiency working in data center environments (incl. Linux servers, Python, Git, Gitlab)
  • Proven experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining end-to-end AI/ML software stacks on HPC, cloud, or hybrid environments, covering the full lifecycle from data ingestion to model deployment.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in developing and maintaining software and data environments in the context of AI, HPC and data analytics use cases, that is utilising e.g.
    1. Kubernetes (or other cluster scheduling/orchestration frameworks)
    2. MLOps tools (e.g. Kubeflow, ClearML, MLflow)
    3. Data management platforms (e.g. piveau)
  • Ability to design and operate data management workflows, including integration with data platforms, model hubs, data spaces, and external repositories using standardized interfaces and APIs.
  • Willingness to keep up with current developments and to learn new technologies in the field of AI
  • Excellent English and preferably German presentation and writing skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced understanding of high performance object storage and RDMA, as well as how to make use of those features in platform/software development.
  • Solid understanding of data governance, access control, privacy, and regulatory compliance, particularly in European contexts, with experience handling sensitive and domain-specific data.
  • Experience in testing, benchmarking, and optimizing software components for scalability, performance, and usability in large-scale AI environments.
  • Experience with agile development methods and CI/CD

Remuneration

up to E 13, see Entgelttabelle TV-L

(24.12. + 31.12. additionally day off)

Overtime is compensated by additional time off

up to 60% of work time, when applicable
